Lexicaid provides word scanning and flashcard functionalities using word recognition technology to aid learning. Lexicaid helps children (aged 7 ) with dyslexia read independently.
Use the smartphone’s in-built camera to capture a specific word when reading text. The app provides both visual and auditory output to help children learn pronunciation, spelling, definition and phonemes. The practice of using flashcards in dyslexia intervention has also been integrated in the app to reinforce word learning through repetition.
To help users track their learning progress, a learning history log is available in the app.
Font customisation options are available to optimise readability and accommodate user preferences. Users can select preferred colours, font style, font size, letter spacing as well as customise the speed and voice selection of the audio output.
Want to know which learning features and methods your child prefers or the words your child has difficulties in reading? Parents and educators can monitor your child’s progress and learning via a web-based mentor panel (mentor.lexicaid.sutd.edu.sg). The data can help you better provide personalised teaching methods for each child.
Lexicaid is designed by researchers from the Singapore University of Technology and Design, dyslexia therapists and allied educators as an educational and assistive tool to help children read and learn independently. The development of Lexicaid is supported by Temasek Foundation, Singapore.
